Se Asia Largest Farm Ups Capacity

Se Asia Largest Farm Ups Capacity
Southeast Asia's first wind power plant in Ilocos Norte has raised its power capacity by 19 megawatts bringing to 52 MW its total power generating capacity to augment other renewable energy resources' power production.

The former 33-MW Bangui Wind Farm has already received its Certificate of Endorsement for Feed-in-Tariff from the Department of Energy (DOE), AC Energy President and chief executive officer Eric Francia said.

The Bangui wind farm is operated by the Northwind Power Development Corp. (Northwind), a subsidiary group of the AC Energy Holdings, Inc. (AC Energy) - an Ayala's energy unit.

The AC Energy, through its affiliate North Luzon Renewable Energy Corp. (NLREC), also completed its 81-MW wind farm in Barangay Caparispisan, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte last November 11, 2014.

The Pagudpud wind farm has likewise been operational and has received the Certificate of Endorsement for Feed-in-Tariff from the DOE.

"Combined, Northwind and NLREC put Ayala's total wind power capacity at 133MW. The completion of these projects is quite timely given the anticipated tightness in power supply this year. We hope these power generation assets will help augment the country's power requirements," Francia said.

In the past three years Ayala has committed over US700 million in equity to build much needed base load capacity and to develop renewable energy sources.

"We continue to work on a pipeline of power projects together with our partners to meet our goal of assembling over 1,000 MW in attributable generating capacity over the next few years," Francia revealed.

Meanwhile, the Ayala's energy unit is now on track to meet 1,000MW target until 2016 after the company had recently secured financing for the phased construction of a 4 x 135MW coal-fired power plant in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte in Mindanao. This brings AC Energy's attributable capacity to over 700MW.

The Mindanao power plant is developed by GN Power Kauswagan Ltd. Co., a limited partnership among AC Energy, the Philippine Investment Alliance for Infrastructure (PINAI) fund, and Power Partners Ltd. Co. Power plant construction is expected to commence in early 2015, and will be operational by 2017.

AC Energy is also involved in the development of a 2 x 600MW power plant in Bataan beside the existing GN Power Mariveles plant, which is 17 percent owned by AC Energy. The new power plant has yet to achieve financial close, which is targeted in 2015.

In the meantime, the first unit of its 2 x 135 MW coal-fired power plant in Calaca, Batangas under South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp. (SLTEC), a joint venture with Trans-Asia Oil and Development Corp., is scheduled to start commercial operations by the first quarter of 2015. The second 135 MW unit of the plant is currently under construction and expected to be complete by the end of the year
